Tharid with Gourd
A beloved variation of Tharid featuring gourd (yaqtin), which the Prophet (ﷺ) greatly loved. Anas ibn Malik reported: "I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) going after the gourd around the dish, so since that day I have always loved gourd." — Bukhari

Ingredients
- 500g lamb or mutton, bone-in
- 1 medium gourd, peeled and cubed
- Salt, to taste
- 4 cups water
- Bread/Nan
Method
Step 1 — Cook the meat Place the lamb in a pot with water and salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1–1.5 hours, until the meat is tender. Step 2 — Add the gourd Add the cubed gourd to the pot about 30–40 minutes before the meat is done. Continue to simmer until the gourd is soft. Step 3 — Prepare the bread Tear the bread/nan into pieces and spread them in a wide serving dish. Step 4 — Assemble the Tharid Ladle the broth generously over the bread to soak it through. Place the tender lamb and gourd pieces on top. Step 5 — Serve Serve immediately
