Melon with Dates

A cherished Prophetic pairing. Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) used to eat melon with fresh dates." — Sunan Abu Dawud. He remarked that the heat of one counteracts the coolness of the other — an early example of Prophetic nutritional wisdom.

Step 1 — Cut the melon: Slice and peel a ripe melon. Cut into wedges or cubes. Step 2 — Prepare the dates: Use fresh rutab (ripe dates) if available, or soft Medjool dates. Step 3 — Arrange on a plate: Place melon pieces alongside the dates on a wide plate. Step 4 — Eat together: Begin with Bismillah. The cooling quality of melon combined with the warm nature of dates creates a balanced, Prophetically approved pairing.
