Haisa

A cherished prophetic sweet of dates, ghee, and bread — served at the wedding feast of the Prophet (ﷺ). Anas ibn Malik narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) held a wedding banquet and there was neither meat nor bread, but he ordered Bilal to spread a leather mat, upon which dates, dried yogurt and butter were placed." — Sahih al-Bukhari 5172

Method

Step 1 — Soften the dates: Remove all stones. If firm, soak in warm water for 10 minutes and pat dry. Step 2 — Blend: Pulse dates in a food processor until a thick paste forms, or knead by hand. Step 3 — Combine: Add ghee, breadcrumbs, ground nuts, and cardamom. Mix until fully incorporated. Step 4 — Shape: Roll into small balls roughly the size of a walnut and place on a flat dish. Step 5 — Set: Allow to rest for 10 minutes at room temperature. Step 6 — Serve at room temperature. They keep well for several days in a sealed container.
