Eating Once or Twice a Day

The Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions typically ate only once or twice a day — never grazing continuously. They ate only when genuinely hungry and stopped before feeling full. Ibn al-Qayyim noted that this pattern promotes physical health, mental sharpness, and spiritual alertness. Limiting meals to one or two a day reflects the Prophetic ideal of minimal but sufficient nourishment.

"We are a people who do not eat until we are hungry, and when we eat, we do not eat to satiation."

Attributed to the companions; quoted by Ibn al-Qayyim in Tibb al-Nabawi
