Do Not Overeat Wheat

The household of the Prophet (ﷺ) rarely ate refined wheat bread to satiation — their staple was the coarser, more wholesome barley. Imam Malik recorded in the Muwatta that Ā'ishah (RA) confirmed the family of the Prophet (ﷺ) did not eat their fill of wheat bread for three consecutive days from his arrival in Madinah until the day he died. Ibn al-Qayyim commented that wheat consumed in excess weakens digestion, increases lethargy, and invites disease — while eating less of it, especially in its refined form, aligns with the Prophetic ideal of light, nourishing food.

"The family of Muhammad (ﷺ) never ate their fill of wheat bread on three consecutive days from the time he came to Madinah until he died."
